50 Cent's Get Rich Or Die Tryin' was topped by Chicken Little and fell short of expectations by grossing $12.5 million at the box office this past weekend.

Chicken Little topped all releases with $32 million. Meanwhile, Get Rich has generated $18.5 million since its opening last Wednesday.

Though it failed to reach blockbuster status, 50's semi-biographical debut posted the best per site numbers with an average of $7,567 in 1,652 theaters. Industry insiders say the R-rated flick might have been affected by a killing that took place in The Loews Cineplex in Pittsburgh's West Homestead as the movie was showing. Since then, some theaters in the area have refused to screen the film after dark.

Despite those opinions, Fiddy was positive that the shooting was unrelated to his film.

"I feel for the victim's family in this situation," 50 told ABC's The View this past Friday. "But you know, these weren't kids. This was a 30-year-old man [who] had a dispute with three other guys."

According to the Wall Street Journal, Paramount chose to open the movie on a Wednesday partly because certain theater owners were worried of the overcrowding and violence that could take place on a Friday night opening. In addition, Paramount is reportedly footing the bill for extra security in certain theaters.

I'm personally glad that this movie didn't do so well, I Hated it, The acting is horrible, Terrance Howard who was so good in other things is wasted in this one.

This is really one of the year's worst films.
