Two lucky fans will get to spend a day with Houston rapper Chamillionaire next week, thanks to an auction by eBay and the Universal Music Store. As the 51st bid, Ebay user "iupikapp" beat out fans from Arkansas to the United Kingdom with a winning bid of $6,300.00.
Houston MCs deserve a prize for using some of the most unusual marketing tactics in Hip-Hop. First, Mike Jones gives the whole world his phone number and now Cham puts himself up on the auction block.
The Spend a Day with Chamillionaire auction went up on Friday, November 11 and ended today (November 18) shortly before 3pm EST. SOHH.com originally received reports that bids had gone as high as $7,100.00 by November 17, however a spokesperson for the artist said today that some bidders retracted their bids because of the seller's terms.
The winner and a guest will attend two autograph signing sessions with Chamillionaire, have lunch with the rapper and receive VIP entrance to Cham's album release party on November 22 in Houston. The package also includes autographed Chamillionaire merchandise, and Playstation games NBA Live and Madden 2006 which feature Cham's "Grind Date" and "Hate in Ya Eyes."
The online auction site eBay has long been a popular place for hip-hop artists and fans alike. Eminem fans used eBay to scoop goodies from the 8 Mile star ranging from film memorabilia to his former home. Others have scoped the site to pick up tickets for popular events like Jay-Z's concert and Summer Jam.
Using eBay as a platform to raise money and awareness, charitable stars including Eminem, Nelly, Kanye West, David Banner and Outkast donated to a Waxploitation benefit auction with profits put toward ending genocide in Africa and Marc Ecko lead the charge of the Council of Fashion Designers of America for an auction to raise funds for fighting breast cancer.
Chamillionaire will release his debut album The Sound of Revenge through Universal Records on Nov. 22. The album features appearances by Scarface, Bun B and Little Wayne.
