Rap mogul Damon Dash has not been arrested, but faces third-degree misdemeanor assault charges following an altercation last week with Smokey D. Fontaine, the editor and co-CEO of his high-end lifestyle magazine, America.
In a police report filed Thursday, Fontaine accused Dash of punching him in the chest so hard that he fell over a chair and was injured, according to the New York Post. Fontaine told police that the alleged beat down occurred last Tuesday during anargument at Dash's Tribeca offices.
Sources tell the Post that Dash and Fontaine had long been at odds over control of the publication, and that one of the issues causing strife was Fontaine's running of a huge advertorial promoting the fashion line of Dash rival Sean “Diddy” Combs.
There are also rumors that Dash didn’t appreciate the fact that Fontaine was looking for new investors.
Fontaine reportedly checked into a hospital immediately following the alleged incident and stayed until Thursday, when he filed the police report.
