UTP/Atlantic recording artist Juvenile has just finished shooting the video for his latest single “Get Ya Hustle On/What's Happenin’,” filmed entirely in New Orleans' devastated Lower Ninth Ward.
The New Orleans-born rapper spent a four-day period shooting just blocks from the levee breach that caused the predominantly-black area to wash away from flood waters.
A statement from Juve’s record label says “both the video and a companion documentary currently in production capture the tragedy that has been visited on the city's poorest neighborhood and dramatically spotlights the governmental neglect that the area and its citizens have experienced since Hurricane Katrina hit more than four months ago.”
The song’s lyrics, written after Hurricane Katrina hit, address the plight of the storm's most affected victims. Juvenile's own home was destroyed by the hurricane. Through this video, he is now speaking out on behalf of those disenfranchised New Orleans citizens whose voices are not being heard, the statement read..
The artist’s first album for UTP/Atlantic, Reality Check, will be released on March 7.
