Legendary B-boy group The Rock Steady Crew is celebrating its 29th anniversary with a four-day festival in New York City – including performances by artists Big Daddy Kane, The GZA, Large Professor, The Beatnuts, and Rhymefest.
“This is a pilgrimage for all,” said RSC president Crazy Legs, who calls the yearly event the “authentic hip-hop experience for everyone.”
“People come from all around the world to attend the anniversary to bridge the gaps between cultures through hip-hop.”
Aside from MC performances, the July 27-July 30 event is also hosting B-boy/B-girl competitions, a street-ball tournament, and a party dedication to the West Coast’s funk movement. The four-day celebration is expected to draw over 20,000 supporters.
Since 1977 the Bronx-based crew has become synonymous with breakdancing, its members making appearances in classic hip-hop films Beat Street, Wild Style, and Style Wars. Current members include Crazy Legs, Mr. Wiggles, DJ Tony Touch, Q-Unique, and Bobbito Garcia.
