The Roots are planning a two-day benefit concert in honor of the late Jay Dee, and as the Philadelphia group transitions over to Def Jam Left, they are also set to share the stage with newly signed label mate, Nas.
In commemoration of producer J Dilla’s passing, the Philly-based live band is scheduled to perform at New York’s Radio City Music Hall in May. A portion of the proceeds will go to benefit Jay Dee’s family.
The Roots will perform alongside long-time collaborators Mos Def, Common and Talib Kweli – and it has been confirmed that Nas will make a one-night appearance. The two-day performance also serves as a precursor to The Roots’ forthcoming Def Jam Left album, Game Theory, due out in late summer.
