btw, I've been rocking the Sony SmartBand for about a week now. It's fucking cool and I got it at a good price.

Tracks pretty much everything - steps, runs, sleep, walking, how much you read, how much you listen to music. It's pretty bad-ass. More impressive than what Fitbit and Jawbone are doing. Works with Android 4.4 device.

I'm really interested in the monitoring of sleep cycles.

I am so tempted to get the LG G3 but I am happy with my Nexus 4, and I think I need to be more sensible with spending this year so I think I'll wait until more concrete information on what Android Silver will be like should it be a reality. I'm hoping that the Google Experience versions of the phones will have expandable memory and preferably removable batteries unlike the Nexus phones - and hopefully a cheaper price tag to go with it.

The G3 has a microSD slot and a removable battery. So if there's a GPE/Android Silver version of it, then it will too.

Yeah, the sleep cycle monitoring is awesome.

Pitts, No heart rate monitor on this band (I don't think many wearable bands have that) but I'm not too bothered about that.

You've just sold the G3 to me. It ticks all my boxes.

As for heart rate monitor. It isn't a necessary feature, but neither is sleep monitoring really. They are nice to haves, and I'd like to monitor my HR when exercising.

^^ Now we wait and see if Apple gets it right. It's rumored iOS 8 will have some sort of health app, and I trust Apple to make it work. They'll do what they usually do. They'll learn from Samsung's Health apps and maybe these devices and services offered by Sony and make something that will be a bit easier to use and will display the data neatly, in a more user-friendly manner. It's one of the things I expect Apple won't drop the ball on and whatever they end up putting out will be the standard set for the industry.

Then we'll see if Google goes this route themselves and incorporates it into Android, in addition to OEMs trying to refine their products more.

That's usually how it goes. I think Apple needs to get a working example out on to the market to show it can be done. Usually they get more relaxed and stagnant after they've struck gold, initially, as Google usually catches up and surpasses them. But I don't see Google making it a priority to get health information services up and running right away.

So the G3 is not made of metal, but is coated with some metal-ish material over some variation of polycarbonate. I guess it's best of both worlds.

The phone is definitely the best smartphone at the moment, regardless. I love the thin bezels - it has a 5,5 inch screen (same as the Note 2), while the device itself is the same size as the 5 inch HTC One, and also thinner.

I like how the white version of the phone almost looks like an illusion as if it blends from black at the top, to white at the bottom, but that's all because of those almost non-existent bezels!

Any word on the whether the screen has scratch/dust resistance and/or the phone having water resistance?

Big hopes for this. I really hope that Android Silver is an eventual reality and they release it for a cheap price - I would seriously be tempted and maybe it's a good time to get the G3 because the G4 might be what the S5 is to the S4... but who knows...

This is the first phone since the Galaxy S2 that could possibly tempt me away from non-stock devices. LG have hit it out of the fucking park with this bad boy.

G+ isn't actually a failure. It's the most relevant social network for businesses. It's just failing with the people.

Not that I care whether it rises or falls.
Social media.....failing with the people.... Which would make it a failure.

I think LinkedIn is more relevant for professionals.

I'm not talking professionals. I'm talking businesses. It interfaces well with Google search. Maybe it is failing as a social network, but as a way of organising information, it is improving google search.

I am not a fan of any social network though. FB through habit. Twitter for news. Linkedin, in-case I go self employed.

I have a quarter of a million page views on my G+ page. A music community I started on there gets dozens of new posts every day.

Failure my ass.

But G+ isn't a social network, anyway. It's an identity layer. Before G+, most Google owned services had separate logins, separate privacy policies, no shared identity. G+ solved that problem.

I bought a Moto G today. My Nexus 5 screen started flickering so I'm getting it repaired under the warranty. A factory reset seems actually to have calmed down the flickering, but I'm not convinced it isn't a hardware issue somehow. The Moto G will last me in the interim then I'll put it on eBay.
