Vance said in Munich:
“If you are afraid of the voices, the opinions, and the conscience that guide your very own people … If you’re running in fear of your own voters, there is nothing America can do for you, nor for that matter is there anything you can do for the American people.”
“People dismissing voters’ concerns, shutting down their media, protects nothing. It is the most surefire way to destroy democracy,” he added.
Refusing to meet with Scholz and talking to the Eurosceptic AfD is a big message, and how current European leaders have understood it can best be seen from the statement of German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.
“If I understood him correctly, he is comparing conditions in parts of Europe with those in authoritarian regimes,” Pistorius said. “That is unacceptable, and it is not the Europe and not the democracy in which I live and am currently campaigning.”
The time of European arrogance has passed since the election of Donald Trump. The Europeans do not know what to do now and only repeat mantras and present themselves as the supreme interpreters of what is democratic, what is free, and what is not. But reality refutes them. The way this Trump administration acts shows that they are misrepresenting themselves.
It is certain that voters in all EU countries are also encouraged. Regardless of censorship in the EU, the message will reach them across the ocean—that freedom is returning.
The determination of the new American administration is also visible on the most painful topic for European leaders who do not understand that the world is changing: the war in Ukraine. During the Munich Conference, suggestions were heard on how to continue the war and urgently create a new plan, even though Trump was very determined in his intention to end the war, as seen in his conversation with Putin.
European leaders are now frantically thinking about what to do because, without American money and weapons, they cannot meaningfully assist Ukraine. The European elite are bound by Russophobia and are trying to make the entire European continent a prisoner of this reckless policy.
