IGN just reviewed it and gave it 10/10, saying:

Skyward Sword is the greatest Zelda game ever created. It's the best game for Wii and one of the finest video game accomplishments of the past 10 years.
High praise indeed. The Guardian was equally astounded, giving it a full 5/5 stars.

So, anyone else gonna pick it up? I recently started playing Twilight Princess so I jump straight into Skyward Sword when it comes out here next week.

I've.. never played a Zelda game. And I don't have Wii.
It has a 95 metacritic score and very high user scores though so it really looks like an amazing game.

I don't think Gamespot is reliable. Not after they got busted inflating scores for shit games because their developers paid them off.

Metacritic seems to be the only one that seems legit.

Also, I think users have so much control, if a site were to give it a bad review, or a less-than-perfect one, there would be huge backlash. I'm sure the game is good. Hell, great. But I have to question a lot of games that get perfect scores, or even 9.0+ scores simply because they're part of a series the reviewer grew up with. Like Mario Sunshine being absolute shit.

Gamespot, really? I thought it was kind of reliable - actually one of the most reliable ones. Huge review sites usually get paid for favorable reviews, that's why for example "7/10" is a shitty game. They just often can't go lower than that.
But when did they get busted though? I'm curious now.

Also, Metacritic and Gamespot are the same company.

Coonie - that's really normal. A friend of mine writes game reviews for a huge website (and magazine) and he told me that it's normal that when reviewers get a game their editor-in-chiefs often tell them that "this game can't get a lower score than 7/10", or sometimes (as it was the case with MW3, BF3 or new Need For Speed) he was told to "give them a 9.5" because they had a deal that their score will be printed on game's box for a lot of $$. Apparently marketing budgets for game publishers also include "convincing" game reviewers that their games are good.
Normal practices really, unfortunately.

For example he wanted to rate BF3 a point over MW3 and back in the days rate Test Drive Unlimited over a Need For Speed game and he couldn't do it.

Well, Gamespot got caught with their pants down, so I don't trust them. I'm not a big enough gamer to just spend money on a game, hoping it's good because I don't trust any reviewer to be objective and risk buying $60 worth of shit.

I want to go get it but I haven't even got close to finishing Twilight Princess yet, haven't found the time. Had band rehearsals, big show next week, writing a bunch of new songs and scripting a new music video to be filmed soon. But hopefully I'll get a couple hours today to get a bit further on it.

I never really played the N64 one too much. My favorite Zeldas are still the top down 2D ones. A Link To The Past on the SNES is one of my favorite video games of all time. Top 5 for sure.

Zelda was all the rage on N64. I thought it was lame as fuck. I found the game to be childish and I was like 12.
Ni**a that's the point...? It's one of those nostalgic games like Mario. I've only ever played it on regular Nintendo. I prob wouldn't like the wii version but I still wanna play

I told my sister I was downloading it for her (I hacked her Wii for her about two years ago) and she's excited. More incentive for her to finish Twilight Princess when she starts winter break and I get home.

My cousin is all about Zelda and he said it's just ok. He still favorites Ocarina Of Time and Twilight Princess but this one is a bit boring. He said much harder than anyone he has played though.
