I just dl'd Rosetta Stone. I doubt it works that well but fuck it I'll try it.

I'm thinking French. Spanish would probably be the best to learn considering all these damn anchor babies around there parts. My friend lives in Italy and I'm headed out there next summer so I guess Italian wouldn't be a bad choice. I'd like to learn Portuguese as well. I don't know which to do, I really like French though.

French: Hard to learn if you're not used to Roman languages.

Spanish: Has a very basic structure. Easy to learn, difficult to master.

Italian is like Spanish but more difficult.

I'd stay away from Portugese if I were you. Hard language.

Go for Spanish. Easy to learn, stays interesting, useful as fuck.

It's very typical. Thats true. I dont know how serious you are about learning this foreign language. Spanish is in general the easiest to pick up, let alone for an American. Spanish is much more near than any of the other languages (French: France, Switzerland, parts of Africa, French Canada. Portugese: Portugal, Brazil, maybe Mozambique. Italian: Italy. Spanish: A whole continent) That's why I'd recommend Spanish.

If you're really ambitious about learning a new language, they're all fair game. Though I'd stay away from Portugese.

On a side note, I'd love to have the time and means to learn Arabic, Chinese, Japanese and Russian.

Aron, are you not a native Spanish-speaker? You look like a Mexican.

I would say Arabic or Cantonese. Two hardest ones, but you want a challenge, right?

Grammar in French can be a bitch, this coming from someone who speaks it. Hizzle and Carmi can tell you the same.

Spanish is your best bet though. I'm looking into learning German... but Spanish and Italian are 2 others I'd consider.

Yeah I have a bit of Mexican in me but I was born in the US, so you know, English.

Mandarin and Japanese are your best bets if you're looking for something more original and useful. Reading and writing is much harder to learn though and it would take much more time than learning Spanish which I guess is still more useful in America.

A high school friend of mine speaks quite fluent Spanish after a year of learning it.

I dont get where Duke is coming from about Portuguese, its not that hard, and its more similar to Spanish than Italian. Also Duke what whole continant do they speak Spanish? If you mean South America then im afraid just as many people speak Portuguese as they do Spanish;

Spanish (193,243,411 speakers) and Portuguese (193,197,164) are the most spoken languages in South America
On a side note, i've been teaching my self Japanese over a period of years, admittedly its complex, but if you are just talking and listening instead of reading and writing, learn Romaji (Romanized Japanese). Im also interested in learning Dutch.

Did you DL for free? If so... link?

I think Spanish is pretty easy to learn, it's valuable in the States and opens up many jobs options. Plus a lot of places pay you more if you speak Spanish/English.

Let us know what you pick and if its easy to learn using the software or not. I'd like to learn another language too.. not sure what.

I know a lot of women that love Russian and other Slavic languages. Shit, 2 weeks ago the lady that was cutting my hair told me she want to learn Russian, and she's an uber Frenchy.
