mind. blown.

the new allshare, sharing your screen to multiple devices. the fact that it knows when you're looking at it. the automatic face recognition tagging. the camera burst function that automatically picks the best shot. the wireless charging. the design. 50GB of Dropbox storage. that display. 2100mAh battery (S2 is something like 1600 and I regularly get 15-16 hours with a fair amount of use.)

bawwwwwssssss.

I don't really need any of that. I like wireless charging, and I am glad Apple didn't do it first. And you can buy a 2100mAh battery for the S2 for about 10 quid...!

I wanted more RAM really...! I notice the RAM a lot on my old i9000.... So I wanted something a bit more future proof. You know these devices are going to be priced similar to an iphone too....!

There are going to be better phones till October. The HTC One X and One S are about as good now.

I don't care about bloatware and gimmicks that are going to make simple tasks harder.

Compared to the SGS2 it's basically more bloatware and gimmicks + wireless charging if you buy an extra accessory (short range), a huge body with bigger screen and extra 2 cores. I suppose that this 2100mAh battery isn't going to extend the battery life of the S2 because of the processor and screen.

I have seen some good deals for it already though.

£36 a month. Which I am already paying.... Plus a galaxy tab....

If I upgrade, I can't see me getting anything other than the S3.... Any phones on the very near horizon worth waiting for?

Yeah. Why physical buttons?

I am due an upgrade on May 29th...... There isn't anything but the S3 is there??????? I may just get it and sell it in a year. I can sell my i9000 for £100 to mazuma.... And S2's are still going for £330 on ebay.

The HTC One X is very similar. The differences between that and the SGS3 are very small.
One S is.. better I think. The screen is smaller though, if you could say that about a 4,3 inch screen.

Sony are set to release new phones every few months now and the next one is going to have the S4 Snapdragon.

Getting outperformed by a far less power-hungry dual core at the start is not a good sign. The One S scores TWICE as much in Linpack and a fair bit more in Vellamo, which is the most complete benchmark.

lol @ casey falling victim to pointless features. i thought only apple fanboys fall for that shit.

i'm with masta and pittsey. you can miss me with all those new features. they're so not in the realm of what i use the phone for. i need a good camera, awesome design, long battery life, a top notch screen, and for it to be really fast. masta can correct me on this, but I don't think the SGIII excels over other phones in any of those areas.

My experience is that that becomes less and less true with each major release. I first used Ubuntu about 4 releases ago. So two years, more or less. At that time, yeah, what you said rings true. But I've only had to use the terminal once so far on the new release.

For me it boils down to two things. Photoshop and Reaper. If those two things were available for Linux I'd probably use Ubuntu way more than I do right now. When I'm home, I just boot into my Win7 install. When I'm out somewhere else with my laptop I boot into Ubuntu. It boots in a fraction of the time compared to Win 7, and Chrome is synced with all my bookmarks and info.
I don't use my Ubuntu set up alot, but I installed Wine and I managed to get Photoshop to work perfectly for me.

Alot of software for Windows runs perfectly in Linux using Wine, even many PC games.

I still might get one. Depends if I can get a Note or an SGSII on a 12 month contract.

Edit - After all this, I think I am going to buy it anyway. It is pretty. And I'll just buy a sim free phone next year.

We don't know much about the camera quality yet but if it comes to the design I don't think it's great. The display is basically the Galaxy Nexus one, but slightly bigger. Battery life.. with this display and its processor it's not going to be amazing.
Speed, it's going to be fast but not faster than the best processors that are already out there. It's Tegra3-fast.

Tegra 3 is pretty good though. My Prime can handle anything I throw at it with zero lag. Including GTA. Although I've only played it once, I'm not really a gamer.

LG reveals Optimus LTE 2: 'True HD' IPS screen, 2GB RAM, and wireless charging this May

Samsung and Pantech laid their cards on the table, and now it's time for LG: the third major Korean electronics manufacturer to reveal a flagship smartphone this week. What you're looking at is the LG Optimus LTE 2, and while the company doesn't provide a lot of specs, LG's heavily touting the phone's "True HD" IPS screen (without mentioning a particular resolution or screen size), Android 4.0, and longer battery life.
Thanks to the combination of a processing chip with integrated LTE connectivity (almost certainly a Snapdragon S4 MSM8960) and a 2,150mAh battery, the company says it lasts 40 percent longer than the original Optimus LTE (which you probably know as the LG Nitro HD) on a charge, and the device has an integrated inductive charging coil to wirelessly top it up. On the software side, there's also a five-shot burst mode for the camera, and voice recognition for taking photos, not unlike on Samsung's Galaxy S III: you can say "Kimchi" to trigger a shot.
The biggest claim to fame, though, is the inclusion of an unprecedented 2GB of RAM, which seems like overkill for a phone. LG says the extra memory should ensure high stability even with multiple applications running simultaneously, but that hasn't necessarily been a problem in the past for Android devices we've used. If you live in Korea, you can expect to see it in mid-May, when it launches on all three major cellular carriers in the country.

I know the Galaxy S3 will be expensive on a sim-free purchase (I'm currently tied into my T-Mobile sim-only contract until December 2012). - Maybe £500-£600. Edit: Amazon says around £500.

So I'm thinking of getting the Galaxy Nexus or the HTC One S. The One S I can get on a £26/month contract (with 6 months free cashback = average of £20/month over 24 months; phone is free = about £480 in total over 24 months). (100 mins, unlimited texts and 1.5GB data).

Otherwise the Galaxy Nexus (16GB): I've seen this for £285 unlocked/sim-free. I'm not sure if it's new/used/refurbished and whether it comes with a warranty. If not, then it's like £330 on Amazon, brand new.
