Technology Android

Yeah, that's the issue. The S6 and the G4 seem like a few months away from the New Year. Even if it was free, I am a stickler for having the newest version, so long as it isn't worse than its predecessor.

I really enjoyed my S3. I've never owned an LG smart phone (had two of their flips almost a decade ago). But those two companies have my confidence so far. HTC isn't bad either, but I value camera and Samsung shines there while HTC is a bit muggy over technical stuff (low light vs well-lit).

Just saw the N9 review from MKBHD and he reminded me about those tablet-specific features.

Android did the shitty thing and made the phone and tablet variants the same thing for "continuity." Garbage. This effectively turns tablets into phones without radios and bigger screens. I miss those special notification menus on tablets. I thought that was the future of Android and that those would make their way to phones.

Yeah, saw it was being rolled out to UK G3s.

A lot of my friends seem to be complaining about the bugs in 5.0. I think Reddit has been as well. They seem to shut up when some app gets updated to the Material Design UI and they "oooh" and "aahh" over it.

Pitts, is it 2012 or 2013, I was thinking of picking one up on the cheap to have around the house. Is yours rooted running cutom ROMs or stock?

I've gone looked at the Nexus 6 twice now, i can't fucks with it, it's too big. The design, screen, snappiness heh, everything was good, but the size was just ridiculous to have in my pocket

The situation on the S6 "leaks" is just confusing. Turns out they were fake? I think it'll still be out by the time I decide to upgrade. And barring any stupid security thing like a locked bootloader that doesn't get cracked or KNOX, I'll go with Samsung again.

Unless LG has the G4 ready in the wings. The G3 sounds like a great phone, but I would still rather get the latest and greatest when I upgrade, and I'll be content when it pales to the competition one month later.

What are the main Android/tech blogs that you guys follow on Twitter?

After not having FB for almost a year, Twitter has been my go-to since Google Reader went down.

I have Android Central, Police.... Not sure what else.

Android Police is all you need, really. Those guys are thorough. Between them and general tech blogs like Ars Tech, Verge and 9to5google I seem to hear about everything.

The Verge gets into the political side of tech too much. Sure, it's important and has an effect, but if I have to hear about online bullying and net neutrality again.....

I remember you suggesting Twitter for news when Reader was going down. I've had a Twitter since 09 or so, but never used it. In the past year, or maybe longer now, I've hand picked about 420 followers for sports and parody accounts. And then made lists of TV shows, rappers, tech news, etc. to help sort through it.

Really seems like a better way of reading info. Not only can you narrow it down to a site, but a specific editor as well, and their particular views.

I feel I'm stating the obvious here, but whatever. I was never apprehensive to Twitter. I just didn't use it right.

And the variety is much greater. If you like articles, you can do that. If you like live reports/tweeting of sports events, news events, etc., you can get that. I use it for all of those things. And like I mentioned, parody accounts are pretty good. I follow Ristol and a lot of his stuff is wacky and funny. Accounts like his are pretty good to just use as change of pace tweets.

And Falcon has been a solid app for me to get Twitter on the go.

On a more Android related note, my S3's battery was starting to take a shit on me. I think I was getting about 8 hours of light use the past month, or so. So I got a ZeroLemon battery, OEM size/capacity, from Amazon and it's charging now. Hopefully it can last me about 3-4 months. It was $12, so it wasn't too expensive for just its temporary use. I just hope to get back to a full day's use again.

Also, I've been trying to stick it to Sprint for the past two months with data usage. I get 4G regularly in my house now, so I've set Twitter to sync every 30 mins or so and download all pictures and profile pictures along the way. Mix that with my regular use of Reddit and browsing.....400 MB.... a day. Oh yeah.
