Stem Cells cure Blind Man

No, this analogy is faulty. "Science" doesn't cure diseases nor create atom bombs. "Science" is a method to investigate and invent things, whatever they may be. It is a guideline to explore the world around us and it's possibilities.
Whereas religion, by it's very definition, creates a set of boundaries that people must adhere to. It constricts, it does not liberate.
I don't see the faulty analogy. When people work for the military in weapons research they know exactly what they will be creating. When the Atom Bomb was created during the Manhattan Project they knew what it was capable of doing. I agree that science is not constricting, but looking at it in a broad sense, it can create as much evil as any religion. That was kind of my point. Some people would argue that religion liberates [your soul] when you die after following the set of rules it has created. So, it really depends.

Nowadays it's a lot more 50/50 than in the days of yore, because nowadays organized religion doesn't dominate society anymore. It's no wonder that technological advancement in practice and rational thinking in society really took off around the period of Enlightenment, just to name a simple example.
Agreed.

That's where this thread went wrong. People going on the over-offensive, people getting butt-hurt and people arguing for the fuck of it. This went way too general way too fast.
Word. That's the problem I think. Many people are unable to just take a neutral stance and try and discuss it. I few threads back in WoW I was able to have one of those with Chronic and it ended well and we each actually got our points across. I'm all for passion in debates, but it's about choosing your words wisely also. Or else you just come off as that loser in class that always talks and gives his opinion, but nobody cares.

It is, but the origin of this debate was religion and science. Not just "religion" but in specific Christianity. The ancient Greeks were never restricted on a scientific level by their religion. Neither were the Romans. Then they turned Christian. A bit later their empire went to shit.
The Empire went to shit not because of Christianity. For the most part, science was not condemned, it came after the split and the western part became overly religious due to their general weaknesses (poor army, small population, constant barbarian raids, etc) compared to the Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantine Empire as we know it) who were known for their prowess in Alchemy which is modern Chemistry. The study of Theology in the past was the only time where sciences and religion were combined, since it's the historical, social and psychological study of religions.

That being said, I shall mount you like a wet poodle later. *licks lips*

The reason why I think it's flawed is that science is a method to invent and explore, for whatever cause that may be. Religion on the other hand, certainly in the olden days, forces people to believe certain things, even if these things contradict the cold hard facts of life.

The problem with your point is that applied science and science are two seperate entities.

The thing is, I couldn't even argue this with somone. There's just no way i could have a serious debate about something so absurd.

That and this debate is played out, to the point where the discussion consists of essays which can be summed up as "lawl ur stupid" "no I'm right. You don't agree with me? Well you are the most stupid, most dumb, retarded fuck stain to walk this earth"

I mean, its not even fun to read anymore.

Yes, that is true. That's just going into a whole other discussion. lol.

Yeah, it pretty much comes down to that. At this point it's just another subject I yawn at. I'd rather talk about how Pogs used to be awesome (I had Spawn ones :) ) than have another turn out like this again imo.
